Bunions hurt my feet!!

by Joan Bessone
(California)

I was diagnosed as a candidate for bunion surgery at 35 years old. My mother and grandmother both had the condition. I am now 61 years old and when I look at my feet, they look like my mothers.

I've taught kindergarten for the past 28 years and take at least 10,000 (thank you Fitbit) painful steps a day. During the last 20 years, I've been on an never ending search for comfortable shoes. I have never worn heels, except maybe for 10 wild and crazy days in my life.

My feel hurt everyday. Its heredity, not bad shoes. In 4 years I plan on retiring. Should I have bunion surgery? Yes or no? What are the pros and cons. I'd like to know your story. Thank you
